Report on the state of the telecommunications market in 2024

These are just some of the questions answered by the report on the state of the telecommunications market in Poland in 2024.
The value of the telecommunications market in 2024 increased by 2.9% compared to 2023 and amounted to 44.4 billion PLN. 9.5 billion PLN was allocated for telecommunications investments, which is 14.3% less than in 2023.

9.8 million users utilized stationary internet access services, which is 3.2% more than the previous year. Revenues amounted to 6.3 billion PLN and were 7.4% higher than in 2023.

The number of users using mobile internet access services, provided through SIM cards used in dedicated devices, decreased by 1.6% to 8.6 million. The market value increased to 2.2 billion PLN, representing a growth of 1.0% compared to 2023

The declining trend in fixed-line telephony has continued. A decrease was noted both in the number of users (down by 18.5%) and in the volume of call durations. As a consequence, revenues fell by 13.0% to PLN 0.8 billion. The significance of VoIP services also declined, although to a much lesser extent. These services were used by 2.7 million users, which is 2.8% less than the previous year. Revenues from VoIP services amounted to PLN 293.7 million, which is 0.4% less than the previous year. In the mobile telephony market, the number of active SIM cards increased year on year by 1.6%, reaching 53.2 million. Revenues of entrepreneurs from the sale of this service amounted to PLN 16.5 billion, which is 8.1% more than the previous year.

Paid television services were provided to 76.3% of households. Revenues from the paid television services market remained at a similar level compared to 2023 and amounted to 6.9 billion PLN. Bundle services were very popular among consumers, with 14.1 million users. For several years now, the most popular among bundle services have been offers combining mobile telephony and mobile internet (46.8%). Customers generated an average monthly revenue of 82.8 PLN from the sale of bundle services.

In 2024, there was a noticeable further development of stationary telecommunications networks. Access to broadband internet with a bandwidth of at least 100 Mb/s and the possibility of increasing it to bandwidth measured in gigabits was recorded in 83.6% of households.

Thanks to investments made so far in the expansion of broadband networks, internet with a bandwidth of at least 1 Gb/s was available in 3,133 registered units.

In 2024, an increase in the use of infrastructure built under POPC was also noted. Retail services on the subsidized infrastructure were provided in 34.6% of households covered by the POPC range.
