Measurement campaign - a horizontal market check
06 December 2018
We have inspected a number of electric and electronic products available on the market, including mobile phones or domestic appliances used for cooking, or even less popular devices such as motion detectors or electrical tools. The inspection covered 251 products. It encompassed 157 devices not using the radio technology, for which the requirements are set out in EMC Directive1, and 94 products using the radio technology (including wifi or bluetooth) covered by the RED Directive2.
Campaign objective
To ensure that all products comply with the relevant requirements and are safe for users.
Inspection
When selecting products to be inspected, our aim was to check the broadest range of devices of various types, brands or models. The inspection involved i.a. technical tests performed at UKE’s Central Laboratory for Technical Research. In addition, the correctness of the documentation accompanying such products was also checked.
Formal requirements
For all devices, the inspectors verified whether a given product has the CE labelling3. In addition, it was checked whether the producer or importer had placed on the device or its packaging information on their address and telephone number and information identifying the device, as well as whether the producer had issued a compliance certificate for the offered product. The inspections demonstrated that for 118 products (47%) such information had not been provided.
Technical requirements - tests
As part of the inspection, 81 products (32%) underwent laboratory tests. The tests revealed that 16 products (20% of the tested devices) did not comply with technical requirements.
Additional information on the inspection presented in a graphical form is available in the appendix.

3 By placing the CE labelling on a product, the manufacturer confirms that the product has been manufactured in compliance with the relevant requirements and is safe for consumers.
