Hybrid international workshop for Ukraine on 5G in Warsaw.

A hybrid workshop for Ukraine co-organised by the European Commission, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the UKE, on the implementation of measures for 5G network cybersecurity and spectrum policy will take place from 16 to 18 December 2024. It follows a workshop held in June this year, which discussed the overall status of 5G network deployment in Poland and Ukraine, and is another event in the long-standing bilateral cooperation.

During almost 20 years of joint activities, several development projects have been successfully implemented and ongoing activities to exchange experiences and best practices have been carried out within the framework of the signed Memorandum on Partnership and Cooperation in the Regulation of Electronic Communications.

The workshop was opened on 16 Decemberby Jacek Oko Ph.D., President of UKE, Ms Fanny Marchal and Ms Elena Visnar Malinovska - representatives of the EC Directorate General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Ms Svetlana Schuster, representative of the EC Directorate General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology, Mr Jaroslav Ponder, representative of the ITU Office for Europe, and Mr Taras Stetsenko, representative of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.

The workshop is attended by representatives of Ukrainian institutions - the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the National Commission for the State Regulation of Electronic Communications, Radio Frequency Spectrum and Postal Service Provision (NCEC), the Ukrainian State Radio Frequency Centre, and experts from the European Commission Directorate General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations and Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology, ITU, UKE and experts from other EU countries. The workshop will also include experts from the European Commission Directorate-General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations and the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology, ITU, Ministry of Digitalisation, UKE and experts from other EU countries from Romania, Bulgaria, Sweden, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Germany, who will share their experience and good practices in this field.

The workshop will address issues related to the EU regulatory framework and standards for 5G, the implementation of 5G technology and measures for cybersecurity (the so-called Secure 5G Toolbox) in EU Member States, issues related to the management of spectrum used for 5G implementation in a cross-border context, and the preparation and implementation of the release of the 700 MHz band taking into account administrative, technical and social aspects. The information gained will help the Ukrainian side to align Ukrainian legislation with the EU regulatory framework and standards for 5G and to plan future activities for a successful 5G implementation in Ukraine.
