Changes in law concerning free internet provided by local government coming into force
12 December 2018
Amendments to the Mega-law relating to the conditions of providing free internet access by local government units will enter into force on 12 December.
According to the new law, local government units will no longer need to obtain the permission (expressed in a decision) of the President of UKE for providing free internet access. Such entities will only need to notify the President of UKE of such activities. New hotspots should be located only in public spaces, and their bit rate may not be less than 30 Mb/s.
For the already existing hotspots, a 3-year transitional period is envisaged during which the conditions set out in the decisions of the President of UKE will continue to be applied.
